Game Development & Interactive Experiences
Design and build small games and interactive experiences: game loops, input, physics and collision, levels, interface, performance and release.
- Planned 30 days
- About 2 h per day
- 7 planned modules
This course is in development and not yet available for purchase. The planned curriculum below is a draft and may change before launch.
Overview
A full program in making games and interactive experiences with a free game engine. You learn game design fundamentals and core loops, the game loop and game state, player input and responsive controls, physics and collision, level design and how to teach mechanics through play, interface, audio and game feel, performance optimisation, testing and publishing a build. The focus is interactive, real-time play rather than general mobile app development. The capstone is a small playable game or interactive experience with documented design and testing.
What you will be able to do
- Design a core gameplay loop with clear goals and feedback
- Structure a game around the game loop and its state
- Implement responsive, accessible input
- Use physics and collision correctly
- Design levels that teach mechanics through play
- Test, optimise and publish a playable build
Before you start
- Basic programming in any language
