Database & SQL
Design relational databases and write SQL with confidence — modelling, constraints, joins, aggregation, transactions, indexes, access control and safe migrations.
- Planned 30 days
- About 2 h per day
- 6 planned modules
This course is in development and not yet available for purchase. The planned curriculum below is a draft and may change before launch.
Overview
A practical program on relational data. You learn tables, data types and constraints, primary and foreign keys, relational modelling and ER diagrams, SELECT with filtering, sorting, aggregation and joins, subqueries and common table expressions, data modification, normalisation, indexes and query performance, transactions, views, access control, SQL injection prevention, and backups and migrations. The capstone is a documented database for a realistic application using safe sample data.
What you will be able to do
- Model data with entities, relationships and constraints
- Write SELECT queries with joins, aggregation, subqueries and CTEs
- Insert, update and delete data safely inside transactions
- Normalise schemas and use indexes appropriately
- Apply access control and prevent SQL injection
- Plan backups and schema migrations
Before you start
- Comfortable using a computer
- No prior database experience required
Planned curriculum
A draft outline of the modules being written. Lessons are not available yet, and the outline may change after expert review.
